About

Nigel Luck developed and headed the enormously successful BA Course at University of Westminster (Westminster Fashion) which he then also led for 5 years. He also introduced the first international industry internship programme which has now become part of the curriculum for most fashion courses.

Nigel then went on to be course director for the MA Womenswear Course at London College of Fashion for 6 years. He also currently lectures in China, Italy, Japan and Kenya.

Nigel Luck, a former graduate of the RCA, is considered to be the most successful and skilled lecturer in fashion design, having worked at all of the best UK courses and universities including Westminster Fashion and Central Saint Martins.

He has also mentored many very successful designers at the launch of their careers, including Harris Reed, Tomo Koizumi and Rok Hwang.

  • Nigel Luck, a former graduate of the Royal College of Art, is arguably the UK's most revered lecturer in fashion design, having worked on many of the best courses and universities including Westminster Fashion and Central Saint Martins.

  • He developed and headed the very successful BA course at the University of Westminster, introducing the first international industry internship programme, and mentored Christopher Bailey, Stuart Vevers, Katie Hillier, Liam Hodges, Markus Lupfer and Ashley Williams.

  • Whilst at Central Saint Martins, his notable alumni included the BA graduates Giles, Hussein Chalayan, Fabio Piras, Antonio Berardi, Stella McCartney, Clements Ribeiro, Peter Copping and Phoebe Philo.

  • Nigel has recently been course director of the Womenswear MA at London College of Fashion; a relatively new course, which has swiftly become one of the leading postgraduate programmes in the world and now shows in London Fashion Week. He is insistent that the craft and drawing skills are still maintained whilst developing each student to have a unique identity and vision. The students have been supported by highly skilled pattern-cutting tutors who also work for leading fashion brands and designers.

  • There are now so many fashion courses training so many students that it is important to constantly move forward and reassess what needs to be taught and learnt. My students each produce a zine and have a website, so they know how to introduce themselves and their work.

  • His experience includes working for major brands and stores both in the UK and Europe, producing designs for Harvey Nichols' own label and the uniforms for British Airways, as well as the trend directions for Cerruti. He has also advised and mentored designers at their fledgling stages, such as Sarah Burton, David Koma, Antonio Berardi, Hussein Chalayan and more recently, Nabil Nayal, who has his first on-schedule show this season at London Fashion Week.

  • On the MA course, Nigel negotiated industry projects and collaborations with, for example, Fendi, ECCO Leather, Sophie Hallette and JW Anderson. Graduates already work in high positions at Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Maison Margiela, Alexander Wang and Giorgio Armani, as well as setting up their own labels.

  • It has become the norm for current lecturers to study fashion for professorships and PhDs: I'm privileged to have met or trained the designers and stylists, as well as witnessed the collections, who have shaped fashion in the last 30 years.
